Mohamed bin Musa bin al-Mutawakkil (r) narrated to us from Abdullah bin Ja’far al-Hiyari from Ahmed bin Mohammed from al-Hasan bin Mahboub from Husham bin Salem from Habib as-Sejistani from Abu Ja’far Imam al-Baqir that the
Prophet (s) said: Allah said: I will punish every Muslim group who recognized the leadership of any unjust ruler whom I do not select, even if the individuals of such a group are pious and God-fearing. I, likewise, will forgive every Muslim group that recognized (only) the leadership of the just imams whom I appointed, even if the individuals of such a group wrong (themselves) and commit bad deeds.
