The Prophet (SAWA) said, ‘Dryness of the eye is one of the signs of wretchedness.
رسولُ اللهِ (صَلَّيَ اللهُ عَلَيهِ وَ آلِهِ): مِن عَلاماتِ الشَّقاءِ جُمودُ العَينِ.

hadith 4456
Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘Tears only dry up as a result of the hardness of the hearts; and the hearts only harden as a result of an abundance of sins.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): ما جَفَّتِ الدُّموعُ إلّا لقَسوةِ القلوبِ، وما قَسَتِ القلوبُ إلّا لِكَثْرةِ الذُّنوبِ.
