Imam Ali (AS) said, Combat vain desire just as an adversary would combat his adversary, and battle it the way an enemy would battle his enemy, [if successful] you may gain mastery over it.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : غالِبِ الهَوى مُغالَبَةَ الخَصْمِ خَصْمَهُ وَ حارِبْهُ مُحارَبَةَ العَدُوِّ عَدُوَّهُ لَعَلَّكَ تَمْلِكْهُ
