Imam Ali (AS) said, A believer is faithful to himself and struggles against his vain desires and feelings.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : اَلمُؤمِنُ أمينٌ عَلى نَفْسِهِ مُغالِبٌ (مُجاهِدٌ) لِهَواهُ وَ حِسِّهِ

Imam Ali (AS) said, He (the believer) has enlivened his intellect, killed his lust, obeyed his Lord and disobeyed his lower-self.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : قَدْ أحْيا عَقْلَهُ وَ أماتَ شَهْوَتَهُ وَ أطاعَ رَبَّهُ وَ عَصى نَفْسَهُ

hadith 890
Imam Ali (AS) said, A believer has three times: a time for whispering to his Lord, a time for assessing himself (or in another narration: a time for making arrangements for his livelihood) and a time when he freely enjoys himself with what is lawful and pleasant.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : لِلْمُؤْمِنِ ثلاثُ ساعات ساعَةٌ يُناجي فيها رَبَّهُ وَ ساعَةٌ يُحاسِبُ فيها نَفْسَهُ (وساعَةٌ يَرُمُّ فيها مَعاشَهُ) وَ ساعَةٌ يُخَلّي بَينَ نَفْسِهِ وَ لَذَّتِها فيما يَحِلُّ وَ يَجْمُلُ

hadith 928
Imam Ali (AS) said, When the soul of a believer ascends to the heavens, the angels are amazed and say: It is incredible how he was saved from a place where the best of us got corrupted.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : إذا صَعَدَتْ رُوحُ المُؤْمِنِ إلَى السَّماءِ تَعَجَّبَتِ المَلائِكَةُ وَ قالَتْ عَجَباً كَيْفَ نَجا مِنْ دار فَسَدَ فيها خِيارُنا
