Imam Ali (AS) said, Not everything that has gone comes back.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : لَيْسَ كُلُّ غائِب يَؤُوُبُ
hadith 7875
Imam Ali (AS) said, One who takes advantage of [unexpected] opportunities remains safe from distress.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : مَنْ غافَصَ الفُرَصَ أمِنَ الغُصَصَ

Imam Ali (AS) said, Whoever finds a place where sweet water enters and he can quench his thirst with it but does not take advantage of it, he will soon feel thirsty and seek it, but will not find it.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : مَنْ وَجَدَ مَوْرِداً عَذْباً يَرْتَوي مِنْهُ فَلَمْ يَغْتَنِمْهُ يُوشِكُ أنْ يَظْمَأَ وَ يَطْلُبَهُ فَلا يَجِدُهُ

Imam Ali (AS) said, Many a lost thing is such that it cannot be regained.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : رُبَّ فائِت لايُدْرَكُ لِحاقُهُ

Imam Ali (AS) said, It may be that he who strives and acts quickly is saved [and succeeds] while the slow seeker [only] hopes [to attain it in the future].
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : رُبَّ ساع سَريع نَجا وَ طالِب بَطيء رَجا

Imam Ali (AS) said, The return of an opportunity [that is lost] is far off and unlikely.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : عَوْدُ الفُرْصَةِ بَعيدٌ مَرامُها

Imam Ali (AS) said, Seize the opportunity when it arises, for indeed you will not get it [again] after you lose it.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : غافِصِ الفُرْصَةَ عِنْدَ إمْكانِها فَإنَّكَ غَيْرُ مُدْرِكِها بَعْدَ فَوْتِها

Imam Ali (AS) said, Breathe before the necks are strangled, and yield before being driven violently.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : تَنَفَّسُوا قَبْلَ ضيقِ الخِناقِ وَ انْقادُوا قَبْلَ عُنْفِ السِّياقِ

Imam Ali (AS) said, Take the respite of the days, protect the boundaries of Islam, and anticipate the sudden attack of death.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : خُذُوا مَهَلَ الأيّامِ وَ حُوطُواْ قَواصِيَ الإسْلامِ وَ بادِرُوا هُجُومَ الحِمامِ

Imam Ali (AS) said, May Allah have mercy on the one who takes the benefit of respite [and opportunity], hastens towards good deeds and cowers out of fear [of Allah].

Imam Ali (AS) said, Opportunity is quick to pass on and slow to return.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : اَلفُرْصَةُ سَريعَةُ الفَوْتِ وَ بَطيئَةُ العَوْدِ

Imam Ali (AS) said, The [passing of] hours diminishes lifetimes and bring [one] closer to annihilation.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : السّاعاتُ تَخْتَرِمُ الأعْمارَ وَ تُدْنِي مِنَ البَوارِ

Imam Ali (AS) said, Arrange an abode for yourself before your descent and prepare the dwelling before your arrival.

Imam Ali (AS) said, Loss [of opportunities] are [a cause of] distress.

الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : اَلفُرَصُ تَمُرُّ مَرَّ السَّحابِ

Imam Ali (AS) said, When what you want does not happen, then want what happens [and be satisfied with it].
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : إذا لَمْ يَكُنْ ما تُريدُ فَأَرِدْ ما يَكُونُ

Imam Ali (AS) said, When the opportunity arises, then seize it, for indeed wasting an opportunity leads to distress.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : إذا أمْكَنَتِ الفُرْصَةُ فَانْتَهِزْها فَإنَّ إضاعَةَ الفُرْصَةِ غُصَّةٌ

Imam Ali (AS) said, Seize good opportunities, for indeed they pass by [quickly] like the passing of clouds.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : اِنْتَهِزُوا فُرَصَ الخَيْرِ فَإنَّها تَمُرُّ مَرَّ السَّحابِ

Imam Ali (AS) said, The greatest distress is [caused by] loss of opportunities.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : أشَدُّ الغُصَصِ فَوْتُ الفُرَصِ

Imam Ali (AS) said, Verily that which has passed from your day has gone, and that which remains from it is not certain, so take advantage of your [present] time by performing [good] actions.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : إنَّ ماضِيَ يَوْمِكَ مُنْتَقِلٌ وَ باقِيَهُ مُتَّهِمٌ فَاغْتَنِمْ وَقْتَكَ بِالعَمَلِ

Imam Ali (AS) said, Verily opportunities pass away [quickly] like the clouds, so seize them when they arise in the gates of good, otherwise they will turn into regrets.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : إنَّ الفُرَصَ تَمُرُّ مَرَّ السَّحابِ فَانْتَهِزُوها إذا أمْكَنَتْ في أبْوابِ الخَيْرِ وَإلاّ عادَتْ نَدَماً

Imam Ali (AS) said, What has passed of your day is lost, what is to come is uncertain; your time is a blessing, so make haste in it while you have the opportunity, and beware of relying on the future.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : ماضي يَوْمِكَ فائِتٌ وَ آتيهِ مُتَّهَمْ وَ وَقْتُكَ مُغْتَنَمٌ فَبادِرْ فيهِ فُرْصَةَ الإمْكانِ وَ إيّاكَ أنْ تَثِقَ بِالزَّمانِ

Imam Ali (AS) said, In loss [of opportunity] there is regret and (or) blame.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : فِي الفَوْتِ حَسْرَةٌ وَ (أوْ) مَلامَةٌ

Imam Ali (AS) said, You will never attain that which has been taken away from you so be moderate in your acquisition.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : لَنْ تُدْرِكَ ما زُوِيَ عَنْكَ فَأجْمِلْ فِي المُكْتَسَبِ

Imam Ali (AS) said, Not every opportunity can be realized.

Imam Ali (AS) said, Whoever delays taking an opportunity at the right time, then let him be sure that he will lose it.
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : مَنْ أخَّرَ الفُرْصَةَ عَنْ وَقْتِها فَلْيَكُنْ عَلى ثِقَة مِنْ فَوْتِها
